The Almanack of Naval Ravikant

by Eric Jorgenson

The Almanack of Naval Ravikant

A collection of Naval's ideas on getting rich without getting lucky, and being happy without needing to.

5 key ideas

  1. Seek wealth, not money or status

Wealth is assets that earn while you sleep. Status is a zero-sum ranking game; wealth creation is positive-sum.

  2. Leverage without permission

Code and media cost nothing to copy. They let one person's work reach millions without hiring anyone.

  3. Specific knowledge

Build skills that feel like play to you and look like work to others. They cannot be easily trained into someone else.

  4. Play long-term games with long-term people

Returns in relationships, reputation and knowledge all compound, but only if you stay in the game.

  5. Happiness is a skill

Naval treats peace of mind as something you practise, like fitness, rather than a reward that arrives after success.

Who it's for

People thinking about career leverage, side projects, or why working more hours stops paying off.
